‘People’ will look after protesters and strikers – The President

President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa has stated in the Cabinet yesterday (14th) that the people will make a decision regarding the protesters and strikers.
He has said this in response to a statement made by the Minister in charge of Police Rear Admiral Sarath Weerasekera at the Cabinet meeting yesterday. He had said that the police should take some action against the protesters and strikers.
Meanwhile, some government ministers and MPs have been making statements saying that protesters and strikers should be beaten with poles and trade union leaders should be arrested.
Attempts by certain people to throw eggs and stones at the JVP’s protest rally against the sale of oil tanks in Trincomalee to India were thwarted by the people themselves.
