Lanka Sathosa has incurred a loss of Rs. 91.5 million due to the importation and sale of sprats. To cover this loss and several other expenditures and obtain cabinet approval for it, the Minister of Trade Bandula Gunawardena has submitted seven Cabinet Memoranda over Rs.5075 million.
This is to be taken up for discussion in the Cabinet today (14th). The Cabinet Memorandum on the Establishment of a Small Supermarket Network covering 14022 Grama Niladhari Divisions across the country is of particular interest. It has been proposed to bear a cost of Rs. 1,500 million for this. Relevant proposals have been made to pay three expenses of Rs. 1,500 million each.
A cost estimate of Rs. 484 million has been submitted to settle the liabilities of a subsidiary set up under the Mahapola Fund. It is also revealed that the Minister of Trade has submitted a report on his official visit to Pakistan.
