The Ministry of Power and Energy states that power will have to be cut off for short periods based on the demand for electricity. The Norochcholai Thermal Power Plant ceased operations during the power breakdown that occurred across the country yesterday (3rd).
CEB says that the Norochcholai Thermal Power Plant will take about three days to restore.
The CEB states that there will be occasional short-term power cuts across the country in the next few days until three 900 MW power plants become fully operational.
The power supply to the entire island was disrupted at around 11.30 am yesterday due to a technical fault in the main transmission system.
The CEB points out that the complete breakdown of the system has occurred as a result of a breakdown in the line carrying electricity from the Kotmale grid substation to the Biyagama grid substation.
People all over the island were severely inconvenienced due to the sudden power breakdown.
