COLOMBO — Minister of Industry Development Sunil Handunnetti has introduced a new social media initiative titled #AskHandun on his Facebook page, designed to address public queries and clear misconceptions regarding the government’s low-interest loan scheme for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs).
The move comes after reports revealed that a significant portion of the public and small business owners lack a proper understanding of the criteria and procedures involved in accessing these subsidized concessionary loans.
Through the #AskHandun platform, the Minister aims to provide direct answers, improve accessibility to accurate information, and streamline communication between the ministry and prospective entrepreneurs.
Further boosting support for local businesses, the government is planning to allocate an additional Rs. 13,000 million (LKR 13 billion) in the upcoming budget proposals specifically dedicated to expanding concessionary SME financing schemes across the country.
