Udeni Dassanayake, the former Chairman of Lanka Mineral Sands Limited, has been arrested by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC).
The arrest relates to actions taken during the tenure of former State Minister Chamara Sampath Dassanayake. The former chairman is accused of committing corruption by making casual appointments to labor positions outside the approved recruitment procedure during 2023 and 2024.
According to the allegations, these unauthorized recruitments resulted in an unlawful gain for the individuals involved, with a total of Rs. 34,438,650.42 paid out in salaries to the casual workers beyond the approved headcount limit.
The arrested former chairman, Udeni Dassanayake, is scheduled to be produced before court.
