Attorney-at-Law Sagara Kariyawasam, General Secretary of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) who was arrested by the Central Crime Investigation Bureau today (10), has been produced before the Kaduwela Magistrate’s Court.
He was taken into custody after arriving at the Central Crime Investigation Bureau to record a statement regarding a remark made against the Inspector General of Police (IGP), in which he claimed that the IGP might be stoned to death on the street.
He had been summoned to the bureau to provide a statement concerning the ongoing investigation into the controversial remark.
The Central Crime Investigation Bureau has filed charges against him for issuing death threats to the IGP and making statements that bring the President into disrepute among the public.
