Speaker Asoka Ranwala has decided to resign from the post.
He has issued a statement to the media stating that he has not made any false statements about his educational qualifications. Since he does not have some of the documents required to confirm his educational qualifications, he has to get them from the relevant institutions. However, it has become difficult to submit those documents promptly.
In the announcement, he further states that the research institute affiliated with Waseda University in Japan, where he was awarded the doctorate, will be able to submit the relevant educational documents, and he intends to submit them as soon as possible.
However, given the situation, he has decided to resign as Speaker to avoid embarrassment to the government and the people who have trusted the National People’s Power.
