The Department of Meteorology issued a red notice at 6:00 a.m. today (14) that is effective for four provinces and two districts.
According to the announcement, a forecast has been issued that the North, North-West, Western, and Sabaragamuwa provinces, as well as the Galle and Matara districts, may experience thunderstorms exceeding 100 mm.
The districts of Kandy and Nuwara Eliya are in a similar situation, and the public is advised to be very careful about the dangers caused by lightning and wind.

Heavy showers about 100mm are likely at some places in Western, Sabaragamuwa, North-Western and Northern provinces and in Galle, Matara and Trincomalee districts.
Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places elsewhere during the evening or night.
The general public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
