Nobody in the presidential election campaign will get candidacy in Malimawa – President tells Fonseka

Former Member of Parliament Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka states that he inquired about obtaining candidacy from the National People’s Power for the parliamentary elections. President Anura Kumara Dissanayake gave him about 10 minutes to discuss the matter and informed him that he could not be nominated.
Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka further states that President Anura Kumara Dissanayake emphasized that the party did not agree to give candidacy to anyone, not with the National People’s Power, during the presidential election.
At a press conference yesterday (12), he said, “I believe that in the presidential election, the leader of SJB was finally placed in his rightful place by the people. I am happy about that. I had a very short discussion of about 10 minutes with Mr. Anura Kumara Dissanayake about the general election. Mr. Anura Kumara Dissanayake told me that the opinion expressed by his party was that they were against giving nominations to those who were not with them in the presidential election.
Next, I discussed that political journey with the former prime minister, the former ministers, and the people in the gas cylinder. There was no attraction. As such, I decided not to contest this election.”
