Minister Vijitha Herath said at a function held at Temple Trees on the occasion of the 150th World Post Day that all the decisions taken so far regarding transferring the historically valuable Nuwara Eliya Post Office building to the private sector will be suspended.
The Minister also stated that the Nuwara Eliya Post Office, the building and its premises will be used only for the activities of the Postal Department in the future.
Minister Vijitha Herath stated that the previous government had decided to take over the Nuwara Eliya Post Office building by force and that, according to the policies of the new president, the building and the land would be reserved for the activities of the Post Department from now on.
This post office is a building of historical value dating back 130 years. It was built in the colonial era and is designated as an archaeological monument of high tourist attraction.
