Ranil has violated fundamental rights – another verdict from SC

The Supreme Court, a few moments ago, ruled that Finance Minister Ranil Wickramasinghe and members of the Election Commission violated fundamental rights by not holding the local government election that was to be held on the 9th of March last year, engaging in deceitful moves. It was also ordered that the election be held as soon as possible. Several organizations, including National People’s Power, Alternative Policy Center, and PAFFREL organization, had submitted petitions to declare that fundamental rights had been violated by not holding the election.
The Supreme Court, which examined the matter for over a year and a half, gave this decision today (22).
The verdict was delivered by a five-member Supreme Court bench consisting of Chief Justice Jayantha Jayasuriya, Vijith Malalgoda, Murdu Pravanandu, Gamini Amarasekara, and Yasantha Kodagoda.
