A strong suspicion has arisen whether Ranil Wickravamasinghe’s Cabinet Secretary Bandula Gunawardena and United National Party General Secretary Palitha Range Bandara are planning to confuse people by making contradictory statements on the same issue.
Yesterday (28), Derana’s brief news notice stated that Palitha Range Bandara had said that a bill must be passed and approved through a referendum for Ranil Wickremesinghe to continue the presidency for another two years. Meanwhile, Bandula Gunawardena, who announced the cabinet’s decisions yesterday, announced that the presidential election will definitely be held this year as imposed by the Constitution.
It gives rise to a reasonable suspicion that the contradictory opinions about the presidential election of the General Secretary of the UNP and the Cabinet Secretary of the government were planned with the knowledge of Ranil Wickramasinghe. If that is not the case, we have to conclude that Ranil Wickremesinghe cannot handle the cabinet media spokesman or the party’s general secretary.
