Former Foreign Minister Rohitha Bogollagama, who was arrested by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC), has been ordered to be remanded in custody until the conclusion of the case by the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court.
An open warrant had previously been issued by the Colombo High Court for his arrest in connection with an ongoing court case. Following a statement given to the Bribery Commission, Bogollagama was taken into custody this afternoon (07) and subsequently produced before the court.
The case filed by the Bribery Commission accuses the former minister of committing corruption under the Bribery Act. He is alleged to have improperly influenced the Chairman of the Board of Investment (BOI) of Sri Lanka to pay over LKR 1.5 million (15 lakh) for hotel fees and expenses in violation of National Treasury regulations, during an investment promotion exhibition held in London in 2006.
