Employees of the Puttalam Divisional Secretariat engaged in a silent protest yesterday (27) at lunch hour, protesting against the incident of Puttalam District Parliamentarian Ali Sabri Rahim threatening Puttalam Divisional Secretary Sampath Weerasekara and obstructing his duties. The Divisional Secretary had gone to look into an issue regarding land belonging to the government.
According to a complaint that a group of people had entered a government-owned land on the old Mannar road in Puttalam and were carrying out construction by erecting fences illegally, the Divisional Secretary had gone to the scene with the administrative Grama Sewaka and the Grama Sewaka in charge of the domain to investigate. Shockingly, Parliamentarian Ali Sabri Rahim had stormed into the place with a gang, threatened the state officials and obstructed their work.
