Temples will be dark on next poya day – Protest against electricity bill……

A proposal has been submitted to the Central Province Maha Sangha Sabha to turn off the lights of all the temples in the island on the upcoming Vap Pohya day as a protest against the increase in electricity bills in religious places.
The Central Provincial Maha Sangha Council meeting was held yesterday (18th) afternoon and a group of Bhikkus have made the proposal, and the Bhikkus have said that ‘Dayaka Sabha’ (Laymen’s Council) should also be included for this purpose.
Speaking after the meeting, Ven. Galaha Sirisantha Thero commenting on the proposal, said, “The electricity bill in the temples has increased five to six times. The electricity bill of my temple is now 60,000 rupees.
In the current situation, we will not be able to put a light in a temple in the near future. Especially, the season of Katina Cheevara Pinkama is ahead. We strongly suspect this is a conspiracy to keep temples in the dark during times like Vesak and Pozon.
