Prominent Tuition Class Owner Arrested with Methamphetamine in Horana

The owner of a prominent private tuition institute in Horana was arrested yesterday (26) by Horana Headquarters Police after being found in possession of 15 grams and 250 milligrams of Crystal Methamphetamine (‘Ice’).

The suspect, a 44-year-old resident of Narthanagala, Horana, is reported to be the son of a well-known local businessman. He runs a major tuition center attended daily by a large number of students.

During the operation, police seized the illicit drugs along with a mobile phone and SIM card allegedly used for trafficking, as well as a digital weighing scale.

The raid was carried out following intelligence received by officers attached to the Division Intelligence Bureau of the Horana Police. Upon police arrival at his residence in Narthanagala, the suspect attempted to flee. However, officers apprehended him and recovered the drugs packaged in a transparent polythene packet inside his right trousers pocket.

Police investigations revealed that the suspect faces previous drug-related allegations. Authorities plan to obtain a detention order to conduct further interrogations.

Further investigations are underway to determine whether the suspect maintained links with major drug cartels, operated a distribution network, or targeted tuition students for drug sales.
