Welikanda rehabilitation camp inmates protest against army harassment

, More than 200 inmates of the Polonnaruwa, Welikanda, Navasenapura rehabilitation camp raised black flags in front of the camp’s main gate yesterday (24th) afternoon. They protested, alleging that the army officers assaulted them, subjected them to various harassment, and did not give them food.
The protesting detainees alleged that the army officers were beating them continuously and did not even give them the required food.
Meanwhile, as a group of protesting inmates prepared to escape from the main gate, the Welikanda Police and the Army took steps to tighten the camp’s security.
However, a prisoner died in the Kandakadu Rehabilitation Center due to an attack by four military personnel last June.
