Former Chief of State Intelligence Senior DIG Nilantha Jayawardena and Senior DIG Priyantha Weerasuriya, who have had charges levelled against them for failing to act to prevent the Easter attack have been transferred with immediate effect.
Nilantha Jayawardena, who was the head of the state intelligence service, was even given promotions under this government. With the new transfer, he has been transferred from the post of DIG in charge of the Central Province to the post of Senior DIG (Auxiliary Services).
The transfers were made at the request of the Secretary to the Ministry of Public Security with the approval of the Public Service Commission. Top officials, including the Secretary to the Ministry of Defense, called a media briefing and made references to the Easter attack. It is interesting to note that the transfers were made in the backdrop of a massive protest against the failure to do justice to the victims of Easter after the Easter service on the 17th.
