Former President Maithripala Sirisena is responsible for not preventing the Easter Sunday attacks and as the head of the Security Council he has not taken any action to prevent the attack said President’s Counsel Sanjeewa Jayawardena. He made this statement appearing in court on behalf of the Bar Association of Sri Lanka before a seven-member bench of the Supreme Court yesterday (16th).
These facts were put forward when former President Maithripala Sirisena, former Inspector General of Police Pujith Jayasundara and former Defense Secretary Hemasiri Fernando were summoned before the seven-judge bench to hear fundamental rights petitions filed against them for allegedly violating fundamental rights by failing to crack down on Easter Sunday attacks despite intelligence.
The petitions were heard the panel consisting Chief Justice Jayantha Jayasuriya, Buwaneka Aluvihare, Priyantha Jayawardena, L. T. B. Dehideniya, Murdhu Fernando, S. Thurai Raja and Gamini Amarasekera.
The petitions were filed in the Court of Appeal by 12 parties, including the Bar Association of Sri Lanka, relatives of those injured and killed in the terrorist attack on Easter Sunday, and priests.
