Former CID director Shani Abeysekera has filed a fundamental rights petition in the Supreme Court seeking an injunction restraining him from being arrested on several charges, including failing to investigate Mohamed Qasim Mohamed Saharan properly. He is said to have led the brutal Easter attack.
The petition was filed by Attorney-at-Law Manjula Balasuriya yesterday (18). Shani Abeysekera has informed the Supreme Court that there is preparation to arrest him according to a B report submitted by the police to the Kuliyapitiya Magistrate’s Court. The petition further states that the police are preparing to arrest him by preparing a false report based on an anonymous petition.
The petition has named 14 persons as respondents, including CID Assistant Superintendent of Police Meryl Ranjan Lamahewa and its Women Inspector Niroshani Pathirana.
