Minister of Agriculture Mahindananda Aluthgamage says that the Registrar of Pesticides Dr J.A. Sumith will be removed from his post.
It is due to the lifting of the ban on five types of pesticides, including glyphosate, which had been banned from sale and use.
The Minister says that an investigation will be carried out against the Registrar of Pesticides and disciplinary action will be taken against those who act against the government’s policy.
The Minister said that he had also ordered the Registrar of Pesticides to cancel the new gazette notification issued yesterday (22nd).
In a gazette notification issued yesterday, the Registrar of Pesticides, Dr J.A. Sumith, on the advice of the Pesticides Technical and Advisory Committee,
repealed the Extraordinary Gazette Notification No. 1894/4 dated 22nd December 2014
