Prof Rizvi leaves Reconciliation Office

Prof. Rizvi Hassan has stated in a post on his Facebook account that he is stepping down from the governing council of the National Unity and Reconciliation Bureau under the Ministry of Justice.

He states the resignation was due to the current government’s unwillingness to take over the work under the bureau. The bureau was set up under former President Chandrika Kumaratunga and functioned well at the time, he states.
However, the sources say the immediate reason for Prof. Rizvi Hassan’s resignation is the appointment of Galagodaaththe Gnanasara, Secretary of the Bodu Bala Sena, as the Chairman of the ‘One Country, One Law’ Task Force.
Meanwhile, the media had recently reported that Justice Minister Ali Sabri, who was disappointed with the appointment of Galagodaaththe Gnanasara, as the Chairman of the “One Country, One Law” Task Force without his knowledge, was also preparing to resign from his ministry post.
Prof. Rizvi Hassan was an active member of the ‘Viyatmaga’ organization that worked to bring Gotabaya Rajapaksa to power.
