The Chief Incumbent of the Maligawatta Samadhi Dharma Thera, Ven. Tangalle Sarada Thera has filed a habeas corpus petition in the Court of Appeal seeking an order to release Ven. Koswatte Mahanama Thero, the treasurer of the National Bhikkhu Front.
He was arrested during a protest in Battaramulla recently and was produced before a court and later released on bail. However, he was forcibly taken to a centre in Mullaitivu for quarantine.
According to the petitioner, it has been confirmed that Ven. Koswatte Mahanama Thero is not infected with the coronavirus.
Accordingly, the IGP, the Attorney General, the Director-General of Health Services, the Chief Medical Officer of Health in the area as well as the OICs of Rajagiriya and Thalangama Police have been named as respondents in the petition.
