Contempt of Court Case against Lawyer Maithri Gunaratne Over Alleged Threats to Magistrate

Legal action has reportedly commenced against Attorney-at-Law Maithri Gunaratne for allegedly threatening the Colombo Chief Magistrate after the magistrate refused to grant bail to his client, Sugeeshwara Bandara.

Reports indicate that the Fort Magistrate Judge has submitted a written representation to the Registrar of the Supreme Court, asserting that Attorney Maithri Gunaratne’s conduct constitutes a breach of professional ethics as well as Contempt of Court.

If found guilty of these charges, Attorney Maithri Gunaratne could face severe consequences, including the revocation of his legal practice (disbarment) and a potential prison sentence.
