Two Killed, One Injured in Underworld Drug-Related Shooting

Two individuals were killed and another sustained injuries when unidentified assailants arriving in a car opened fire on three people traveling in a three-wheeler in the Vaulagala area, within the Baddegama police division.

The deceased have been identified as Sushitha Iroshani, a resident of Red Cross Houses, Godahena, Ambalangoda, and Lalith Susantha de Silva, a resident of Kuligoda, Ambalangoda, who was driving the three-wheeler.

The injured individual, D.N.G. Mallika, has been hospitalized and is reported to be the mother of the deceased Sushitha Iroshani.

According to police, the shooting occurred as the victimized woman was returning to Ambalangoda after visiting the Galle District Crime Division in Baddegama to sign as required for an ongoing court case. Unidentified gunmen in a car opened fire on the three-wheeler using a T-56 assault rifle.

Police suspect that the deceased woman had links to the drug trafficking operations of Sujeewa Ruwan Kumara, alias “Loku Patty,” and that the assassination was orchestrated by organized crime figure and drug trafficker Sobanahandi Jayalath de Silva, alias “Karandeniya Sudda.”

Further investigations into the incident are being conducted by the Baddegama Police.
