The verdict in the high-profile case filed against 24 defendants-including Naufer Maulavi-over their involvement in the 2019 Easter Sunday terror attacks is scheduled to be delivered today (22).
The judgment will be delivered by a three-member Trial-at-Bar bench comprising High Court Judges Navaratne Marasinghe, Ramanathan Kannan, and Sujeewa Nissanka.
The case was filed by the Attorney General in 2021 under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA), encompassing 23,270 charges including conspiracy to launch suicide attacks, aiding and abetting, committing murder, and causing severe injuries.
Following an extensive trial during which the court recorded comprehensive evidence and defense statements, the bench scheduled today for the final verdict. All 24 suspects currently in remand custody have been brought to the court premises under tight security measures.
