The parents of Sivarasa Anojan, a Sri Lankan youth currently facing the death sentence in Saudi Arabia, met with President Anura Kumara Dissanayake at the Presidential Secretariat today (21).
During the meeting, the parents briefed the President on their son’s situation and appealed for urgent state intervention to save his life.
Listening attentively to their plea, President Dissanayake assured them that the government is making every possible effort to secure a pardon for Anojan through both legal and diplomatic channels.
The President specifically stated that steps would be taken to submit a formal diplomatic request to the King of Saudi Arabia seeking a royal pardon.
Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment, and Tourism Vijitha Herath, who was also present, noted that the ministry is continuously monitoring the case through the Sri Lankan Embassy in Saudi Arabia and actively coordinating with Saudi authorities.
Deputy Minister of Religious and Cultural Affairs Muneer Mulafer and family members of Sivarasa Anojan also attended the discussion.
