State revenues have significantly increased over the past two years by bringing individuals and entities previously evading the tax net into the system. These enhanced revenues have been channeled directly into key sectors meeting essential public needs, including healthcare, housing, transport, and energy supply.
Over the past two weeks, several major infrastructure and community projects delivering direct benefits to the public have been unveiled:
Energy Sector Breakthroughs: Key initiatives include the launch of a new Battery Energy Storage System to capture solar power and the inauguration of the “Diya Janani” floating solar power project.
Housing Development: Multiple targeted housing schemes have been launched, including housing projects for low-income families, new homes for victims of Cyclone Ditwah, and dedicated housing developments for the plantation community.
Water Resources & Reservoir Restoration: Numerous drinking water projects have commenced alongside extensive desilting operations in key reservoirs. Notably, desilting work at the Bowatenna Reservoir was undertaken for the first time in 50 years.
These development and welfare initiatives are being executed despite major external and internal economic headwinds, including the aftermath of Cyclone Ditwah—which caused over $4 billion in damages—and the ongoing global economic pressures stemming from the US conflict with Iran.
