Three additional intervening petitions were filed in the Supreme Court August 28 in support of the proposed 22nd Amendment to the Constitution.
Among the petitioners, Attorney-at-Law Janaka Adhikari, Secretary of the Inter-Company Employees’ Union, submitted one petition.
The other two petitions were filed by Dulara Gunathilake, Convener of the Collective of National Organizations, and artist Dayaratne Suwanda Hennadige.
The petitioners contend that the draft bill has been presented in full compliance with legal procedures and request the Supreme Court to rule that it can be passed in Parliament without a national referendum.
With these filings, a total of five intervening petitions were submitted today supporting the 22nd Constitutional Amendment bill.
