A married couple was arrested at a beauty salon on Railway Station Road in Matara on August 27 in possession of heroin and ice (crystal methamphetamine) valued at nearly Rs. 70 million.
The raid was conducted by the Matara Division Crime Investigation Unit following a tip-off.
During the search, officers recovered 2.045 kg of heroin and 50 grams of ice from the male suspect. His 26-year-old wife was found in possession of an additional 6 grams of heroin.
In addition to the narcotics, police seized Rs. 625,000 in cash—suspected to be proceeds from drug trafficking—along with two electronic scales and four mobile phones. The arrested couple is scheduled to be produced before the Matara Magistrate’s Court today (August 28).
