The Government of Sri Lanka has decided to send USD 1 million in financial assistance along with a medical relief team to support ongoing rescue and relief operations in Nepal following severe natural disasters.
Despite recovering from its own recent economic challenges, Sri Lanka’s announcement of financial aid has drawn widespread support from citizens across social media platforms, praising the humanitarian gesture. The Sri Lankan government further stated its readiness to supply rice stocks should the Nepalese government require it.
Expressing his condolences, President Anura Kumara Dissanayake took to X (formerly Twitter) to share his sympathies:
“I am deeply saddened to learn of the loss of lives caused by the devastating floods in Nepal. I join the people of Sri Lanka in extending our heartfelt condolences to the people of Nepal.”
Additionally, Minister of Foreign Affairs Vijitha Herath reached out to Nepal’s Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal to convey the deep sympathies and solidarity of the Sri Lankan people during this crisis.
