Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) Governor Dr. Nandalal Weerasinghe announced that the country’s economy is rapidly returning to pre-crisis levels within a remarkably short period, describing the achievement as a notable success.
Addressing a diplomatic briefing organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Weerasinghe disclosed that discussions are currently underway with three major global credit rating agencies to further upgrade Sri Lanka’s sovereign rating.
He highlighted that macroeconomic stability has been successfully restored. Through effective inflation control, the rebuilding of foreign exchange reserves, and public debt restructuring, the financial system is now operating smoothly without sudden disruptions, severe volatility, or unmanageable risks.
Dr. Weerasinghe noted that stabilization programs launched in the wake of the crisis played a pivotal role in strengthening foreign reserves, stabilizing inflation, and restoring overall fiscal balance.
He further emphasized that Sri Lanka now serves as an impressive global example of a nation that suffered a severe balance-of-payments crisis but achieved a swift economic recovery.
