Following information received by the OIC of the Ipalogama Police Station, Ipalogama Police, along with the Police Special Task Force (STF) and police sniffer dogs, raided a house under a search warrant issued by the Kekirawa Magistrate’s Court.
During the raid, it was revealed that the house belonged to a Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) Pradeshiya Sabha member.
The councilor had been running a gambling den inside his residence, and he was arrested along with 14 other individuals actively involved in gambling at the site.
Subsequent searches of the premises led to the recovery of nearly 7 kilograms of various types of illegal game meat stored inside a deep freezer. Both the contraband meat and the freezer were taken into police custody.
The suspects were produced before the Kekirawa Magistrate’s Court yesterday (05) and were released after being ordered to pay fines.
However, as the SJB councilor was a wanted suspect under an active arrest warrant related to a financial fraud case investigated by the Tambuttegama Special Crime Investigation Bureau, the Magistrate remanded him in custody until August 12 after examining the facts.
