Nishantha Jayaweera, a former Additional Secretary to the President, has been officially named to fill the parliamentary seat left vacant by the resignation of Dr. Harshana Suriyapperuma.
The Election Commission issued a gazette confirming Jayaweera’s appointment after receiving his nomination from Dr. Nihal Abeysinghe, Secretary of the National People’s Power. Dr. Suriyapperuma stepped down from his roles as a Member of Parliament and Deputy Minister of Finance and Planning to take over as Secretary to the Ministry of Finance.
