A total of 426 individuals have been taken on foreign trips under President Ranil Wickremesinghe’s administration since he assumed office. The CID has informed the Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court that over Rs. 1 billion in public funds were spent on these official visits from 2022 to 2024.
In 2022, 63 people joined the President on four foreign trips, costing nearly Rs. 130 million. The number surged in 2023 with 252 people taken on 14 trips, spending close to Rs. 580 million. In 2024, 111 more were taken on five trips, with expenses nearing Rs. 300 million.
