Upali Liyanage, the former Chairman of the Ceylon Fisheries Harbour Corporation (CFHC), was arrested today (June 27) by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) over alleged misconduct during his tenure.
He was later produced before the Colombo Magistrate’s Court, where Chief Magistrate Thanuja Lakmali Jayatunga ordered his release on bail after hearing submissions from both the Bribery Commission and the defence.
The arrest is part of ongoing efforts by CIABOC to clamp down on public sector corruption and hold former officials accountable for misuse of power and public funds. Further legal proceedings are expected in the coming weeks.
