Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya has taken action to appoint a competent authority to replace the Vice Chancellor of the University and direct administrative affairs.
Dr Harini Amarasuriya, as the Minister of Higher Education and Vocational Education and Prime Minister, issued an extra special gazette yesterday (24) appointing Prof. R.M.U.S.K. Rathnayake for this position.
The appointment has been made to be effective from today (24) according to the 20(4)(ආ) of the University Act of 1978 No 18.
The gazette also states that the administrative affairs at Ruhuna University have been severely disorganized, and the authorities of the University have failed to normalize the situation.
The strike was organized by the academic and non-academic staff trade unions and student unions affiliated with the University of Ruhuna, demanding the immediate removal of the Vice-Chancellor.
