Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment, and Tourism Minister Vijitha Herath says the local government elections are planned for early next year. He was speaking to the media today (23) in Kandy.
The minister said that according to the decision given by the Supreme Court, the local government elections will be held as soon as possible.
Also, the minister said that some of the candidates in the nominations related to the local government elections given two years ago have died and some people have left the country.
The minister said that his government would discuss the matter with other parties and decide whether to call for new nominations.
