All arrangements were made for the start of the first parliamentary session of the new government, which is dedicated to reviving the country after the previous rulers bankrupted it.
The Parliament was convened at 10:00 a.m. in a very elegant manner after the Secretary General of the Parliament announced the notice of its convening before the House. Its activities began with the appointment of the Speaker and the Deputy Speaker.
Dr Ashoka Ranwala was appointed Speaker, proposed by Prime Minister Dr Harini Amarasuriya and seconded by Minister Vijitha Herath. Specialist Dr. Mohammad Rizvi Sali was appointed Deputy Speaker, proposed by Dr Nalind Jayatissa and seconded by Minister Saroja Paulraj.
