Police resist power of Sajith & Ranil to side with masses

The police, resisting the powers of Ranil Wickramasinghe as the interim president and Sajith Premadasa as the opposition leader, have rejected the attempt to close two main roads and hold the last campaign rallies in Maradana.
The Deputy Inspector General of Police Priyantha Liyanage, in charge of Western Provincial Traffic Division, has stated that political rallies cannot be held by closing the main roads not only during the presidential election but also on any other occasion.
Ranil Wickramasinghe’s last campaign rally was planned to be held in front of the Elphinstone Theater in Maradana with the main road closed. Also, Sajith Premadasa’s last campaign rally was planned to be held on the road where Maradana Tower Theater is located, close to Elphinstone Theatre.
The Colombo Municipal Commissioner has been requested to make the necessary recommendations. However, the police have not given the necessary approval.
