A recent report of the National Audit Office has revealed that a huge amount of public money has been spent on VIP security in this country in one year.
As revealed in the report, the average annual VIP security expenditure for 5 years from January 1, 2018, to December 31, 2022, has been 4,342 million rupees. But in the year 2023, it has spent more than Rs 1,500 million in a year to Rs 5,833 million.
As of January 01, 2022, 3,894 officers had been assigned for VIP security, and this number increased to 4,859 in September 2023. These officers have been deployed for the security of former Governors, Members of Parliament, Chief Ministers, certain religious leaders and other dignitaries by spending public money.
In addition, a large number of security personnel are deployed for the former presidents, who are maintained with public funds.
