The entire country is keenly watching the course of action that interim President Ranil Wickremesinghe and some cabinet members are planning to take regarding the Supreme Court’s decision to suspend Deshabandu Tennakoon from the post of Inspector General of Police.
Various reports have confirmed that legal experts, political parties, trade unions, civil organizations, and religious leaders are keenly watching the situation. It was revealed after the sudden cabinet meeting yesterday (24) that a group led by Ranil Wickramasinghe is preparing to make an illegal response to the decision of the Supreme Court. It has now been revealed that a significant number of people in the cabinet have protested the actions that certain groups of people are going to follow under the leadership of Ranil Wickramasinghe.
Minister Bandula Gunawardena had announced that the Cabinet’s decision would be announced within two days. However, Education Minister Susil Premjayantha has directly stated that according to the court’s decision, the implementation of the action is not for the Cabinet but for the Constitutional Council. In the meantime, journalists are closely observing whether the government is preparing for any illegal activities.
