Ali Sabri Rahim, Member of Parliament for Puttalam District, who has been issued an open warrant by the Kalpitiya Tourism Magistrate’s Court, and Ahmed Nasira, Governor of the North Western Province, participated as special guests in a ceremony held at Al Aksha National School, Kalpitiya yesterday (16).
In Kalpitiya, the Special Honorable Buhuman and Police Warranted MP Ali Sabri Rahim was led to the festival grounds with special honour and police courtesy.
Member of Parliament Ali Sabri Rahim ignored the court by not appearing on three occasions when a case assigned to the Puttalam Magistrate’s Court by a non-governmental organization in Kalpitiya was investigated.
The Puttalam Additional District Judge and Magistrate Iona Wimalaratne had ordered the Kalpitiya Police through an open warrant to arrest the MP immediately and bring him to court as he had avoided presenting himself in court or having a lawyer to represent him.
The customs officials arrested MP Ali Sabri Rahim recently while smuggling in gold and was fined.
