A group of university candidates said yesterday (14) that they have qualified to enter universities but have not yet received that opportunity. They said this while participating in a media conference of the People’s Campaign to Save Schools.
Yomidu Navaratne, a university candidate who spoke, said, “We faced the A/L examination in the year 2022, and we lost the university admission due to the problems that arose at the time of selection for the universities that year. But we faced the 2023 A-level exam again and solved that issue. Now, it’s been 44 days since our results came. But still, we could not enter the university. After meeting the authorities, we talked about this issue. They say there is no problem recruiting, but they cannot do administrative work due to the strike of non-academics.
However, we know that the 74-day strike by the non-academic staff is continuing. I don’t know how long it will last. Therefore, we request that the authorities create a suitable recruitment programme.
