Minister Jeevan Thondaman, one of President Ranil Wickremesinghe’s close associates, got himself surrounded by Indian actresses to celebrate the Thai Pongal festival, which has led to a serious question as to how much foreign exchange they spent for the occasion.
On the 21st, the government launched a massive publicity campaign named Thaipongal Festival at Dunbar Stadium in Hatton. Four famous Indian actresses, Aishwarya Rajesh, Aishwarya Dutta, Sanyutha and Minakshi, participated in the event.
Minister of Cultural Affairs Vidura Wickramanayake, Central Province Governor Lalith Gamage, Northern Province Governor G.S. M. Charles, and many other politicians and government officials participated. Although banners were displayed that Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena would also attend the campaign, he did not participate.
