Despite the severe foreign exchange crisis that has left the country economically bankrupt, it has been advertised that President Ranil Wickremesinghe is going to Dubai with a delegation of 80 people to participate in the COP 28 conference.
There has been a severe dialogue in the country about how many people, including President Ranil Wickremesinghe, went to Dubai, and the BBC Sinhala website confirmed that the number was 80. The BBC has revealed this by quoting D. Anil Jasinghe, Secretary of the Ministry of Environment. Although it has been stated that these people will join the conference under three categories, no specific idea has been revealed about the ministers and other people who will participate at the state’s expense.
In addition to the Pohottu party representing the government, the MPs of Samagi Jana Balawega, who are also said to be independent from that party, including MP Champika Ranawaka as political representatives, Environment Minister Keheliya Rambukwella, Electricity Minister Kanchana Wijesekera, Foreign Minister Ali Sabri and a large number of presidential staff as well as several government officials have also joined this trip.
A list of 25 of the 80 people who went abroad has been released to the media.
