“People have decided that the term of this government should end. The government, which knows that the government will be ousted the first time an election is held, is hiding in fear of public opinion. As citizens, we have a great responsibility in this. Citizens should come forward to protect the future of this country, democracy and our rights. At a time when the rulers have abandoned their responsibilities, the citizens have to act for it more strongly, boldly, determinedly and purposefully than ever,” emphasizes NPP Member of Parliament Dr Harini Amarasuriya.
She emphasized this while addressing a press conference held by the NPP at the JVP head office at Pelawatta yesterday (17th).
Speaking further, Dr Amarasuriya said, “It has been very well established that this regime operates only for its power project and its own survival. Although various parties in the government criticize the government’s actions, it is evident that they do not act to defeat the government in crucial matters. They are working to postpone further the punishment that will come from the people against them for oppressing the people. It is clear how President Ranil Wickremesinghe is acting in his usual deal politics. He makes various confessions citing Buddhism and various literary works. Ranil Wickramasinghe has no answer other than selling and ‘deal’ politics, even though he comes out with highbrow talk. Even if confessions are made to give the people a hint that there has been a change, it is clear from practice that he is not prepared to change even an iota. When raising questions about the budget, he says nothing can be done due to the IMF conditions. If it is so, why do you need a finance minister or a government? A government and a cabinet are appointed to work with international organizations to implement an agenda that the country needs. We should understand the agendas of international organizations and work to make our agenda win.
The people have decided that the time of this government should end. The government, which knows they will be ousted the first time an election is held, is hiding in fear of public opinion. As citizens, we have a great responsibility. Citizens should come forward to protect the future of this country, democracy and our rights. At a time when rulers have abdicated their responsibilities, citizens have to act for it with more courage, determination and purpose than ever before.
For this purpose, the NPP always works with people in various fields. As a political movement, we are determined to move forward by giving the strength and leadership the citizens need. We are working resolutely for the historical transformation of creating a people’s government soon. Until then, there is no need to bow down to the existing regime. We have to express our displeasure and protest. Everyone is requested to join the protest held in Nugegoda for our rights. We ask the gentlemen of the security forces not to engage in illegal actions under a reloaded Inspector General for a government that has no popular opinion.”
