Observers point out that the 48-hour symbolic strike organized by the United Postal Front, which ended yesterday (10), is a massive milestone in the history of trade union struggles in this country.
In this way, the strike has become historically significant as it was launched based on issues of national importance that went beyond trade union demands. The token strike was launched against the action taken by President Ranil Wickremesinghe to sell the Nuwara Eliya Post Office building and the Kandy Post Office building and threatening the Postmaster General.
At present, several trade unions are lining up to launch struggles for objectives of national importance. Power, petroleum and port trade unions are leading among these.
