The purpose of the online security bill is to control social media, says President’s Counsel Saliya Peiris.
Although the government has said that the purpose of this new bill is to ensure the safety of the Internet and online systems, the lawyer points out that this is not the real purpose.
He says that the freedom of expression in social media will be a big issue due to the new bill. Hence, it should be challenged in the Supreme Court after it is submitted to the Parliament; he emphasized.
