According to reports, all surgeries at Hambantota General Hospital have stopped due to the absence of an anaesthetist.
As such, the patients needing surgery are referred to Matara General Hospital and Galle General Hospital.
It has been reported recently that 850 doctors of graded rank have left the service between 01.06.2022 and 31.05.2023. Among them, 544 have taken unpaid leave and gone abroad, and 197 doctors have left the service. Meanwhile, it is reported that the anaesthetist of Hambantota General Hospital has also left the service and has now gone abroad.
